| Group 2 - Range Rover TDV8 Autobiography |
Rover had been experimenting with producing a "big brother" to the Land Rover as far back as the 1950s, with the Rover P4-based two-wheel-drive Road Rover project. |
|
This was shelved in 1958, and the idea laid dormant until 1966, when engineers Spencer King and Gordon Bashford set to work on a new luxury off-roader.
You sometimes wonder what can be done to enhance an engineering masterpiece like the Range Rover. Altering the design isn't necessarily guaranteed to work while rearranging the interior can, if you're not careful, over-complicate the issue.
And when the impeccable road manners and ability to drive up the side of Kilimanjaro are already at the limits of perfection, any improvement is likely to centre on techno wizardry.

"Quite simply, the daddy of them all... The Rangey makes for a genuine first-class mode of transport for the privileged few. Don't be fooled by thinking it can't match to luxury saloon standards. It can, and in some cases, betters them." |
